Comments on the geologic information

  • THE IRON ORES OF WADI SHATTI OCCUR IN A 140 M THICK SEQUENCE OF CLAYSTONE AND SANDSTONE OF LATE DEVONIAN AGE. THE OUTCROPPING WEATHERED ORE IS COMPOSED OF REDDISH BROWN LIMONITIC OOLITES IN LIMONITE, CHLORIE AND KAOLINITE GROUND- MASSES. THE UNWEATHERED ORE IS COMPOSED OF CHAMOSITE AND LIMONITE OOLITES IN CHAMOSITE, CHLORITE AND LESS COMMONLY, LIMONITE GROUNDMASSES. MAGNETITE AND SIDERITE AS MINOR CONSTITUENTS ARE FOUND IN MOST OF THE UNWEATHERED ORE AND ARE THE CHIEF MINERALS IN THE A3 ORE UNIT, IN WHICH THE ORE BEDS ARE ASSOCIATED WITH LIGNITIC CLAYSTONES AND, LOCALLY, THIN COAL SEAMS. MAGNETITE IN THE WADI SHATTI DISTRICT IS FOUND MAINLY IN THE UPPER IRON-BEARING FORMATION, IN THE MIDDLE A3 UNIT OF THE A HORIZON.
