Comments on the location information

  • Political location in the record is Mineral county. However, original lat/long plots 2 km inside adjacent Sanders county. Reference is unpublished and might be difficult to check. Original coordinates were: lat/long NAD27 47-30-37N 115-29-22W (47.5103 -115.4894); UTM N5262758 E613745 Z11N; PLSS line# 1: Meridian- Montana Principal, TWNSHP 020 N, RNG 032 W, Sect 10, Sect_fract <blank>. The PLSS coordinates translate to 47.508 -115.658, west of the lat/long but still in Sanders county. The original lat long translates to T20N R31W Sect 12, over one section off. Geonames only lists one Silver Peak in Montana. Located in Phillips county, an unlikely place for a polymetallic vein deposit. No evidence of a typographical error because both the latitude and longitude of Phillips county differ from the original location. So the county name was changed to Sanders and the PLSS-lat/long disagreement is noted.
