Comments on the production information

  • THE SIBAI CONCENTRATOR WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1959, AND IT WAS MODERNISED IN 1990. ORE BENEFICATION: THREE STAGE CRUSHING IN PRIMARY JAW CRUSHERS AND SECONDARY AND TERTIARY CONE CRUSHERS IS FOLLOWED BY THREE STAGES OF BALL MILLING. THE BALL MILLS OPERATE IN CLOSED CIRCUIT WITH 500 MILLIMETER AND 360 MILIMETER CYCLONES TO PRODUCE A FEED TO THE COPPER ROUGHERS WITH 80 TO 95 PERCENT PASSING 74 MICRONS. THE COPPER ROUGHER CONCENTRATE IS RE-GROUND AND CLEANED. THE COPPER ROUGHER TAIL FEEDS THE ZINC FLOTATION SECTION. COPPER, ZINC, AND PYRITE CONCENTRATES ARE FILTERED. TAILINGS ARE PUMPED TO A DAM 1.5 KILOMETERS FROM THE CONCENTRATOR. ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION: A SYSTEM FOR THE PURIFICATION OF WASTE WATER IS NEEDED. THERE IS A DUST PROBLEM ASSOCIATED WITH THE STORAGE OF PYRITE CONCENTRATE, AND A PROPER STORAGE FACILITY IS REQUIRED. CONCENTRATOR MANAGEMENT IS KEEN TO RECLAIM AND CULTIVATE OLD TAILINGS DAMS. COST INFORMATION: IN 1990, THE COST OF MILLING ONE METRIC TON OF ORE WAS R5.70. POTENTIAL FOR EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT: THERE ARE NO PLANS FOR FUTURE EXPANSION OR DEVELOPMENT.

Comments on other economic factors

  • ORE IS SUPPLIED BY FOUR MINES: THE SIBAI AND BAKR-TAU MINES, WHICH SUPPLY 35 PERCENT OF THE ORE; AND THE TAISKI AND THE ZHEZKENT MINES, WHICH SUPPLY 65 PERCENT OF THE ORE. CONCENTRATES ARE SHIPPED TO THE FOLLOWING DESTINATIONS: COPPER CONCENTRATE GOES TO THE SREDNEURALSK COPPER SMELTER, ZINC CONCENTRATE GOES TO THE CHELIABINSK ELECTROLYTIC ZINC PLANT, AND THE PYRITE CONCENTRATE GOES TO VARIOUS CHEMICAL ENTERPRISES.
