Deposit BAT CLAIMS HAVE HAD SPORADIC PRODUCTION FROM SHALLOW PITS IN PAST BUT NO MAJOR OPERATIONS. THIS ANALYSIS TREATS A SINGLE SECTION OF THE GREAT DYKE - THE "BAT CLAIMS SECTION" - AS ONE MINING UNIT. IN REALITY MORE THAN ONE COMPANY MAY HOLD LEASES OVER THE SECTION DESCRIBED, AND SIMULTANEOUS PRODUCTION COULD COME FROM MORE THAN ONE OPERATION. TO ANALYZE THE GREAT DYKE FOR AVAILABILITY IT WAS NECESSARY TO ADDRESS THE SITUATION IN A LOGICAL, COMPARTMENTALIZED FORMAT. HENCE, THE "BAT CLAIMS SECTION" REFERS TO AN 8KM LONG SECTION COVERING THE EAST LIMB OF THE GREAT DYKE STRUCTURE FROM THE UMNIATI RIVVER NORTHWARDS.
