Comments on the geologic information

  • THE ORIGIN OF THE HEAVY MINERAL DEPOSITS HAS NOT BEEN FULLY DETERMINED, BUT IT IS BELIEVED THAT THEY HAVE RESULTED FROM TWO PERIODS OF EROSION. ROCKS OF THE INLAND ARCHEAN SHIELD WERE ERODED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE SEA, WHERE THEY WERE DEPOSITED. THERE WAS THEN A PERIOD OF UPLIFT AND LATERIZATION.

Comments on the production information

  • THE PLANT COMMENCED PRODUCTION MANY YEARS AGO, AND IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN FORMED FROM ONE OR MORE OF THE FOUR PLANTS OPERATING IN THE AREA. THESE FOUR COMPANIES ARE: 1. TRAVANCORE MINERALS COMPANY LTD. 2. HOPKIN AND WILLIAMS (TRAVANCORE) 3. F.X. PEREIRA AND SONS 4. ASSOCIATED MINERALS SUBSEQUENTLY, THE STATE GOVERNMENT MADE ITSELF A PARTNER TO THESE COMPANIES. ALTHOUGH YEAR OF INITIAL PRODUCTION IS UNKNOWN, PEAK PRODUCTION WAS 267,000 TONS OF ILMENITE IN 1940.

    Titanium TiO2 6.5 wt-pct Titanium Major 1981

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • GRADES SHOWN ARE CONSTITUENTS, NOT MINERALS. ILMENITE = 65% OF HM * 18% HM = 11.7% IN ORE * 60.6% TIO2 = 7.09% TIO2 IN ORE. RUTILE = 4% * 18% = 0.72% IN ORE * 95% TIO2 = 0.68% TIO2 IN ORE. ZIRCON = 6.5% * 18% = 1.17% IN ORE * 67% ZRO2 = 0.78% TIO2 IN ORE. MONAZITE = 0.75% * 18% = 0.135% IN ORE * 55% REO = 0.074% REO IN ORE. PRODUCTION GIVEN AS 219,100 MTPY OF HM. THIS DIVIDED BY 18% IS ABOUT 1,217,000 MTPY, AROUND 4,000 MTPD OF SAND. USE 4,000 MTPD * 312 DAYS = 1,248,000 MTPY OF SAND.
