Deposit JOHNS MANVILLE OF CANADA HAS BEEN EXPLORING FOR ASBESTOS IN THE INGESSENA HILLS AREA.EXACT LOCATION OF INTEREST IS NOT KNOWN.CO-ORDINATES ARE OF THE KUKUR ASBESTOS AREA 5 KM NE OF KUKUR,22 KM WNW OF BAU. TEST DRILLING BEGUN LATE 1976 TO DETERMINE EXTENT&QUALITY. ESTIMATED LENGTH OF SURVEY IS 18 MONTHS AND WILL COST ABOUT $1,800,000(INCLUDING $400,000 FOR PILOT PLANT). OBJECTIVE OF SURVEY IS TO ESTABLISH RESERVES SUFFICIENT FOR PRODUCING 100,000 MTPY FIBER FOR 20 YEARS. SURVEY IS PORTION OF FEASIBILITY STUDY BEING PERFORMED BY GULF INTERNATIONAL(SUDAN)AND JOHNS MANVILLE. ESTIMATED CAP.COST OF PROCESSING PLANT IN 1976 WAS $115,000,000 INCLUDING ROADS,ELECTR.,SUPPORT INFRASTRUCT- URE&COMMUNICATIONS(INGESSENA HILLS AREA IS REMOTE). UNDP STUDY ON DEPOSITS WAS COMPLETED IN 1973 AND INDICATED POTENTIALLY "WORTHWHILE" DEPOSITS.(UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM REPORT).
