| Deposit | CURRENT FACILITIES AT THE PORT KEMBLA SMELTER INCLUDE UPDRAUGHT SINTERING, BLAST FURNACE, PIERCE-SMITH CONVERTERS, AND REVERBERATORY ANODE FURNACES. SMELTER CAPACITY IS 40,000 MTPA ANODE COPPER. NO SULFUR FIXATION FACILITIES EXIST AT THIS TIME. IT WAS ORIGINALLY PLANNED TO COMMISION A 175,000 TPA SULFURIC ACID PLANT BY THE END OF 1990, HOWEVER THIS PROJECT WAS DELAYED BY INDUSTRIAL STRIKES AND CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. SMELTER FEED IS ABOUT 25% SCRAP AND 75% CONCENTRATES. |
