Deposit CONSTRUCTION ON THE KEMANO POWER STATION WAS BEGUN IN 1989 TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL POWER TO THE KITIMAT PLANT. THE $1 BILLION PROJECT WAS SUSPENDED IN 1991 PENDING AN ENVIRONMENTAL RULING. DESPITE A FAVORABLE RULING IN 1992, ALCAN HAS DELAYED WORK ON THE PROJECT UNTIL ALL CHALLENGES RESOLVED. ALCAN SPENT $675 MILLION TO DATE. KEMANO PROJECT CANCELLED IN 1994.
