Deposit (2-92) NUOVA SAMIM HAS ANNOUNCED PLANS TO CLOSE ITS 100,000 TPY SMELTER FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. DURING THE CLOSURE THE PLANT WILL BE MODERNIZED AND THE CAPACITY EXPANDED TO 160,000 TPY. THE PLANT IS TO BE CLOSED BY JULY 1992 AND REOPEN IN 1994. *(7-92) COMPANY DECIDED NOT TO GO WITH THE TEMP. SHUTDOWN OF THE SMELTER. THE PLANT WILL BE REPLACED BY A NEW 120,000 TPY ELECTROLYTIC PLANT. THE NEW PLANT IS TO START-UP IN 1994.
