CHANGE TO OUTOKUMPU FLASH. SMELTER HAD BEEN FORCED TO CLOSE DOWN IN 1989 AND 1990 FOR 37 WORKING DAYS BECAUSE OF HIGH SULPHUR EMISSIONS, COSTING THE COMPANY $1.7 MILLION.

Deposit IT WAS ANNOUNCED IN EARLY 1992, THAT THE OWNERS OF THE CHAGRES SMELTER HAVE SIGNED CONTRACTS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A SULFURIC ACID PLANT. NO TENTATIVE DATE FOR COMPLETION IS KNOWN, HOWEVER AT FULL CAPACITY THE PLANT WILL PRODUCE 1,125 TPD OF SULFURIC ACID. SEE MINING JOURNAL, 3/6/92, P. 165.
