  • THE PLANT IS FED BY THE NIKSIC MINES, WHICH PROVIDE 80 PERCENT OF THE NEEDED BAUXITE; AND THE REMAINING 20 PERCENT OF BAUXITE IS IMPORTED.
  • ABOUT 84 PERCENT OF ALUMINA IS TREATED AT THE ASSOCIATED SMELTER. ABOUT FIFTEEN PERCENT OF THE ALUMINA PRODUCTION IS EXPORTED TO WESTERN EUROPE AND 1 PERCENT IS SHIPPED TO OTHER EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES.
  • THE PLANT USES PECHINEY TECHNOLOGY. BAUXITE MILLS WERE SUPPLIED BY FIVES-CAIL BABCOCK IN FRANCE. IN 1989, THERE WAS A JOINT VENTURE WITH VAMI OF LENINGRAD, USSR, TO CONSTRUCT A 3.5 METRIC TON PER YEAR GALLIUM EXTRACTION PLANT. THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PLANS TO EXPAND ALUMINA CAPACITY. THE STATUS OF THE JOINT VENTURE IS UNKNOWN.
