Deposit DEVELOPMENT WOULD REQUIRE 350KM OF RAILROAD CONSTRUCTION THE TIN HRASSAN LIMESTONE DEPOSIT, 40 KM WEST OF TAMBAO, COULD BE DEVELOPED IF A RAILROAD WERE BUILT. THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF MANGANESE DEPOSITS AT TAMBAO: LENTIC- ULAR BEDDED DEPOSITS, WHICH CONSTITUTE 90% OF THE ECO- NOMIC OXIDE RESERVES, AND DETRITAL MANGANESE OXIDE. THE MINERALIZED MANGANESE STRUCTURES OCCUR IN TWO ADJA- CENT HILLS ABOUT 150 M APART; MN OCCURS IN 3 SEPARATED STRUCTURES OR ZONES WHICH VARY IN AVERAGE MN CONTENT. RESOURCES AMOUNT TO ABOUT 15MT AT A GRADE OF 51% MN; PRODUCTION IS CURRENTLY(JULY 1993) ABOUT 250TPD(70,000TPY) AND IS EXPECTED TO BE INCREASED TO 140,000TPY. PRODUCT IS TRUCK-HAULED 140KM TO A RAILHEAD AT KAYA FOR RAIL TRANSPORT TO THE PORT OF ABIDJAN, IVORY COAST. THE RAIL- -ROAD EXTENSION FROM OUAGADOUGOU TO KAYA IN 1992, PAID FOR MAINLY BY CANADIAN AID.
