Comments on the reserve resource information

  • THE COTO OPERATIONS HAVE ALWAYS HAD AT LEAST 7 TO 10 YEARS WORTH OF PRODUCTION IN THEIR REPORTED RESERVE CATEGORY. THE 1980 REPORTED RESERVE WAS 5,307,000 METRIC TONS OF MASSIVE, DISSEMINATED HIGH SILICA AND STOCKPILED FINES ORE. THIS INCLUDED +6 MINERAL RESERVATION NUMBER 1 RESERVE. HOWEVER, IN 1981 A NEW 25 YEAR OPERATING AGREEMENT WAS SIGNED BY BENQUET AND CONSOLIDATED MINES WHICH WOULD INDICATE MUCH LARGER POTENTIAL THAN IS BEING REPORTED. SINCE THE START OF OPERATIONS IN 1937, PRODUCTION HAS AMMOUNTED TO 15,000,000 METRIC TONS OF PRODUCTS WHICH WOULD INDICATE MINING OF AT LEAST 30,000,000 METRIC TONS OF CRUDE ORE. IN 1967, COTO RESERVES WERE ESTIMATED AT 9,325,000 METRIC TONS. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT FROM 1967-1980 ABOUT 12,000,000 METRIC TONS OF CRUDE ORE WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTRACTED WHICH STILL LEAVES RESERVE AS 5,307,000 METRIC TONS AS OF 1980. THUS IT HAS BEEN ASSUMED THAT THE DEMONSTRATED RESOURCE CONSERVATIVELY SHOULD REPRESENT AN ADDITIONAL TONNAGE OF 75% OF +6 REPORTED "PROVEN" RESERVE. THUS, THE RESOURCE IN Q-MAT 1 REPRESENTS THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES: 9,136,000 MT IN-SITU, PROVEN, AT 18 OREBODIES 500,000 MT IN MASINLOC-ORBIT CLAIMS 10 KM S OF COTO 297,000 MT STOCKPILED FINES 6,852,000 MT IN-SITU, PROBABLE AT 18 OREBODIES. OVER THE LIFE OF THIS RESOURCE, AT LEAST 40 % WILL HAVE TO BE MINED BY UG METHODS IN COMPARISON WITH THE PRESENT 30 % FROM UG MINING.
  • SITE VISIT JUNE 1987. SURFACE MINING DISCONTINUED IN 1986. IN 1982 THE ECONOMIC LIMIT FOR SURFACE MINING SAID TO BE 20/1 WASTE TO ORE AND PLANS WERE FOR 16/1 IN 1982. EST. 1,774,000 MT SURFACE ORE LEFT AT COTO, 1,050,000 MT SURFACE ORE AT SATELLITE ORE BODIES AND 1,211,000 MT OF DISSEMINATED SURFACE ORE.FOR UG: 100% REC./35 % DILUTION FOR ANALYSIS: 425,000 MTPY ROM FOR: 18,030 MTPY OF "METBLEND" LUMP AT 28% CR2O3, 14,050 MTPY REFRACTORY LUMP AT 31% CR2O3,
