Comments on the production information

  • THE PLANT WAS COMMISSIONED IN 1939. SOME MODERNISATION IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT IN 1959. THE CONCENTRATE IS DRIED IN A DRUM DRIER AND IS PELLETISED OR BRIQUETTED BEFORE SMELTING IN A BLAST FURNACE. THE EXHAUST GAS IS TREATED THROUGH CYCLONES AND THE COLLECTED DUST IS RECYCLED TO THE FURNACE. SOME DUST IS SEPARATED TO PRODUCE A ZINC-RICH CLINKER. THE SLAG IS SOLD FOR ROAD-BUILDING WITHOUT FURTHER CLEANING. THE BLISTER IS CAST INTO CAKES AND RAILED TO THE KYSHTYM REFINERY, 700 KILOMETERS AWAY. MOST VALUABLE BY-PRODUCTS COLLECT IN THE BLISTER AND ARE EXTRACTED AT THE COPPER REFINERIES. THE ZINC IN THE FEED IS VAPORISED AND COLLECTED IN THE CYCLONE DUSTS FROM WHICH A ZINC-RICH CLINKER IS EXTRACTED. THE BLAST FURNACE GASES CONTAINING 3.5 TO 5.5 PERCENT SO2 ARE CONVERTED TO 92.5 PERCENT SULPHURIC ACID IN A SINGLE CONTACT ACID PLANT. THE COST OF SMELTING IN 1990 WAS R227 PER METRIC TON OF CONCENTRATE. THE BREAKDOWN OF THESE COSTS IS GIVEN AS LABOR, 4.7 PERCENT; ENERGY 5.7 PERCENT; AND "OTHER", 89.6 PERCENT. IT IS ASSUMED THAT THE COST OF FEED IS INCLUDED WITH "OTHER" COSTS. SHORTAGE OF ACID PLANT CAPACITY LEADS TO POOR SULPHUR RECOVERY. THE RESTRICTION OF GAS CLEANING EQUIPMENT TO CYCLONES PROBABLY LEADS TO HIGH DUST EMISSIONS. THE ONLY DEVELOPMENT PLANNED IS AN INCREASE IN ZINC OXIDE PRODUCTION BY BETWEEN 100 AND 150 PERCENT. THE OTHER PLANT ON THE SITE IS "URALELECTROMOTOR".

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • IN 1997 COMMODITY SPECIALIST REPORT CAP IN LISTED AS 40,000 MT CU CONTAINED IN CONCENTRATES. DATA OF REPORT IS AS OF 1995.
