Deposit COBAR MINES PROPIETARY LTD PRODUCES CU ZN PB BY MINING UNDERGROUND WITH A 3 SHAFT OPEN-STOPING MECHANIZED CUT AND FILL METHOD USING HAULAGE TRUCKS AND BELTS TO TRANSPORT THE ORE. THE MINE OPENED IN 1965. ACTUAL TONNAGE IS 658,130 METRIC TONS. MINERALIZATION OCCURS AS COPPER,LEAD,ZINC AND IRON SULFIDES. DAILY ORE CAPACITY EQUALS DAILY MILL CAPACITY AT 2500 TPD THE EXTRACTION METHOD IS FLOTATION. THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE OPERATION IS J.T.BRADY. DURING THE YEAR ENDING JUNE 1969 626,530 MT OF COPPER AND COPPER/ZINC ORE WERE RAISED FROM THE MINE. 186,478 MT OF COPPER/ZINC ORE WERE TREATED ASSAYING 1.2% COPPER AND 4.7% ZINC AND 1.8% LEAD. 3839 MT OF PB CONC WERE PRODUCED CONTAINING 47.1% LEAD. ALL THE PB CONC WAS SMELTED TO BULLION AT COCKLE CREEK. IN ADDITION 44,296 MT OF CU CONC. AND 11395 MT OF ZINC CONC. WERE RECOVERED. THE MINE IS OPERATING WITH ADEQUATE PROVEN RESERVES THEREFORE NO EXPLORATION IS NEEDED. TOTAL CAPITAL COST FOR THE MINE IS $28 MILLION. COPPER CONCENTRATES ARE ASSUMED TO BE SENT TO THE ELECTROLYTIC REFINING AND SMELTING CO. OF AUSTRALIA LTD. AT PORT KEMBLA,NEW WALES BY TRAIN (760 KM.). THE NO.1 SHAFT WAS EXTENDED FROM 397M TO 1006M IN 1974. THE NO.2 SHAFT WOULD HAVE TO BE EXTENDED FROM 618M TO 1006M IN 1981 TO PREPARE FOR MINING THE ORE BETWEEN THE 540M LEVEL AND THE 1006M LEVEL. DRIFTS,RAISES,STOPES, AND CORE DRILLINGWOULD ALSO NEED TO BE DEVELOPED IN 1981. MINING BEGAN IN JUNE OF 1965 AT C.S.A. AND THEREFORE THE EQUIPMENT WAS REPLACED IN 1974. THE ORIGINAL MINE PLANT IS ADEQUATE FOR CONTINUED MINING. AS OF JANUARY 1,1981 RECOVERABLE RESOURCE AT 75% POB- ABILITY IS 26,647,498 MT,ASUMING OPEN STOPE UNDERGROUND MINING. 500,000 MT OF ORE ARE MINED THE FIRST 5 YRS,AND 700,000 MT OF ORE WILL BE MINED THEREAFTER. THE MINE OPERATES 260 DAYS PER YEAR. MINE AND MILL OPERATING COST IS $24.59/MT. THE MILL OP COST IS $8.30/MT. COPPER SMELTER OPERATING CHARGE AS OF 1 JAN. 80 IS $0.10 PER POUND. ZINC SMELTER OP CHARGE ( 1/80) IS $180.00/MT CONC. LEAD SMELTER OP CHARGE (1979) IS $94.62/MT CONC. COPPER REFINERY OP CHARGE (1/80) IS $0.065/LB CU. LEAD REFINERY OP CHARGE (1979) IS $154.83/MT CONC. LEAD AND ZINC CONCENTRATES ARE ASSUMED TO BE SENT TO THE SULFIDE CORP. PTY. LTD. (CRA) AT BOOLAROO,NEW SOUTH WALES BY RAIL A DISTANCE OF APPROX. 800KM.
