  • ACCORDING TO THE COPPER, LEAD, AND ZINC INDUSTRY OF THE FORMER SOVIET UNION REPORT PUBLISHED BY CRU, THE SMELTER WAS MODERNISED IN 1980 AND, COMBINED WITH A SECOND PLANT BUILT IN 1955, PRODUCED 178,000 METRIC TONS OF HIGH AND ALLOY GRADE ZINC IN 1990. THE LEAD REFINERY, BUILT IN 1950 AND MODERNISED IN 1990, PRODUCED 92,700 METRIC TONS IN 1990.
  • A KIVCET DIRECT SMELTING FURNACE, COMMISSIONED IN 1990, HANDLES 30% THROUGHPUT. TWO BLAST FURNACES REMAIN IN OPERATION, ONE IS USED TO PROCESS RECYCLED MATERIALS.
  • FEED GRADE IN 1990 AVERAGED 52.7% PB. 1990 FEED SOURCES: BELOUSOV (5.6%), BERYOZOV (3.5%), ZIRYANOVSK (23.3%), TEKELI (3.8%), AKJAL (6.3%), KARAGAILI (0., LENINOGORSK (23.2%), KENTAU (2.9%), TZENTRALNAYA (8.5%), BLAGODAT (5.4%), ZOLOTUSHINSKAYA (10.1%), SALAIR (2.9%), IMPORTS VIA TUAPSE (4.2%).
