Relative position This placer occurrence is along a creek between Shiels Glacier and the Copper River. The placer extends 1.5 miles upstream from the Copper River. The map site is at the midpoint of the placer, in the S1/2 sec. 21, T. 11 S., R. 4 E., of the Copper River Meridian. The location of the site is accurate to within 2000 ft. The occurrence is shown as site P-4 in Jansons and others (1984).

  • Geologic Description = This occurrence consists of small amounts of placer gold in alluvial and colluvial gravels derived from underlying metasedimentary rocks of the Upper Cretaceous Valdez Group (Nelson and others, 1985). A 0.1-cubic-yard sample contained 0.0009 oz. Au/cubic yard (Jansons and others, 1984).
  • Age = Holocene.
