Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Grogg Creek drains an area underlain by pelitic schists and small intrusions of intermediate composition. The creel flows over glacio-fluvial gravels, but none of the workings has exposed the deeper gravels. Gold in small concentrations occurs throughout the extent of the creek and there have been many small-scale, hand-mining operations.
  • Age = Probably the same age as the White Creek gravels (HE205); ie., younger than the paleochannels on lower Valdez Creek (HE194).

Economic information about the deposit and operations

Development status Prospect

Comments on exploration

Mining district

District name Valdez Creek

Comments on the workings information

  • Workings / Exploration = There are many indications of small scale mining, both past and recent, on Grogg Creek. All operations appear to have been limited to near-surface gravels, and operations were apparently conducted without the benefit of any drilling (D.L. Stevens, personal observations).
