Identification information

Deposit ID 10308040
Record type Site
Current site name Unnamed (on Wrangell Narrows)

Geographic coordinates

Geographic coordinates: -132.96187, 56.53974 (WGS84)
Relative position As described by Roehm (1945 [IR 195-37]) the location of this site is 'In Wrangell Narrows about 2 3/4 mile north of Point Alexander and 1 1/5 mile due north of Midway rock. Old cut a few feet up from high tide line.' This location is approximately in the vicinity of December Point but the information given is insufficient to determine whether the prospect is on the Woewodski Island side of the Mitkof Island side of Wrangell Narrows. The coordinates for the site are arbitrarily placed in the middle of Wrangell Narrows and the site is probably within a quarter mile of this location.

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The only published information on the site is given by Roehm (1945 [IR 195-37]). Needle-like crystals of stibnite and pyrite occur along fractures in reddish-colored granite. One sample assayed 13.9% Sb and traces of gold and silver . Brew (1997 [OF 97-156-I]) shows a small Cretaceous diorite pluton that extends across Wrangell Narrows at or in the vicinity of this site; the pluton is bordered on the Mitkof side of the Wrangell Narrows by a large Cretaceous hornblende-diorite pluton and on the Woewodski Island it is surrounded by Mesozoic greenstone and greenschist.
  • Age = Cretaceous or younger if the stibnite-bearing fractures cut the Cretaceous diorite plutons.
