Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Placer gold colors have been found along upper Bogus Creek where it drains foothills to the Kuskokwim River lowlands (Maddren, 1915). In about 1904, a prospect shaft was sunk to a depth of about 50 feet in frozen gravel somewhere along this part of the creek. Bedrock in upper Bogus Creek includes volcanic rocks of the Whitefish Lake volcanic field and thermally metamorphosed Jurassic rocks along the west side of a large, mid-Cretaceous granitic pluton (Box and others, 1993).
  • Age = Quaternary.
