Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Placer mining began in about 1909 where depth to bedrock was about 25 feet. Drift mining from 1909-1916, dredging from 1926 to 1935 (Cobb, 1976; OFR 76-633, p. 66), and dredging from 1940 to 1942 (R.M. Chapman, 1978, U.S.G.S. unpublished memorandum). Two mines on Fish Creek were reported as recently as 1990 (Swainbank and others, 1991). No information on amount of gold production. Most of the dredging appears to have taken place on the bench north of the creek. Stibnite, auriferous bismuth nuggets, cassiterite and scheelite are found in concentrates (Cobb, 1976; OFR 76-633, p. 66).
