  • The deposit contains an estimated 484,000,000 tons of material grading 0.44% copper and 0.01 % Mo, based on a 1979 resource estimate.

Comments on development

  • In 1965, a Newmont-Utah Construction jpont venture drilled shallow holes in the Lagomarsino Ranch lands area northeast of the main Yerington Deposit on the east side of McLeod Hill, but found insufficient copper mineralization to continue work. Anaconda subsequently acquired the property and drilled 10 deeper holes with similar results. Phelps Dodge drilled 12 holes on the property between 1969 and 1973 and discovered the copper-moly deposit. Development of the deposit would have necessitated relocation of the county airport, which was voted down by the Lyon COunty Board of Commissioners, effectively halting development of this rich orebody.
