Comments on other economic factors

  • In 1990, the remaining resource in Sandy Valley mine, Goodsprings District, was reported to be 58000 kilotonnes of ore containing 99.5 tonnes gold. Between 1856-1962 the mine produced 689 kilotonnes of ore containing 2.8 tonnes gold, 65.2 tonnes silver, 2.2 kilotonnes copper, 42.7 kilotonnes lead, and 98.8 kilotonnes zinc (Long and others).
For the Old Keystone Mine area Goodsprings deposit, in 1990 the estimated geologic resource was 64 Mt grading 0.05 opt Au, and in 1996 reserves were reported to be 659 Kt ore grading 0.078 opt Au.
The Keystone Mine area produced about 1000 ounces of gold in 1990.

Comments on development

  • In 1996, Leader Mining International reported that they were commencing a drilling program on the Yellowhorse gold mine. Yellowhorse is described as an alkali porphyry system that is gold rich and sulfide poor, with significant values of platinum, silver, and copper.
In 2004, Boxxer Gold Corp. began a diamond core drilling program on its Boss property, located in the Goodsprings mining district about 55 miles westsouthwest of Las Vegas. The preliminary drilling program will total approximately 3,000 feet of HQ-size core from five to six shallow (400- to 600-foot) angled holes designed to test three targets identified by geologic mapping, rockchip sampling and geochemical/geophysical survey programs completed since the fall of 2003. Concurrent with the drilling program, detailedgeologic mapping, rock chip sampling, and prospecting will continue on the east side of the property where several areas of high-grade gold-arsenic mineralization have been identified along the Keystone thrust fault.
