| Deposit | The Confidence-Lamphere Mine exploited a typical East Belt gold deposit, which is characterized by a tabular hydrothermal quartz-vein system that cuts granodiorite of the Sierra Nevada Batholith. The vein system strikes N14W and dips about 25E. It ranges in width from a few inches to 15 feet and consists of a footwall vein and hanging wall vein. The footwall vein has an associated ?porphyry? dike that is pale green, probably caused by the presence of chlorite. The walls of the vein system are decayed to a depth of about 300 feet below which the wall rock becomes hard granodiorite. Ore consists of lenses that contain native gold and auriferous pyrite and galena. These sulfides yielded a concentrate that contained as much as eight ounces or more of gold per ton. |
