Controls for ore emplacement

  • THE ROCKS OF THE AREA ARE A RATHER COMPLEX ASSEMBLAGE OF GRANITIC ROCKS WHICH HAVE NOT BEEN STUDIED ADEQUATELY AS YET. THE OLDEST ROCKS SEEM TO BE A LIGHT GRAY COARSE-GRAINED EQUIGRANULAR HORNBLENDE BIOTITE DIORITE CUT BY DARK GREEN PORPHYRITIC ANDESITE DIKES. THIS ROCK IS INTRUDED BY A EQUIGRANULAR GRANODIORITE COMPOSED OF PLAGIOCLASE, ORTHOCLASE, HORNBLENDE, AND BIOTITE. THE VEINS ARE RELATED TO A DARK FINE- TO VERY FINE-GRAINED DIORITE FACIES OF THE GRANODIORITE. VEIN MATERIAL CONSISTS OF MILKY WHITE COARSE CALCITE WITH MASSIVE CHALCOPYRITE, PYRITE, AND A LITTLE GLASSY, FERRUGINOUS OR MILKY QUARTZ, COMPACT GRANULAR MAGNETITE, RHODOCHROSITE, CHLORITE, AND TOURMALINE. MARCASITE AND BISMUTHINITE HAVE BEEN REPORTED AND CUPRIFEROUS HETEROGENITE (HYDROUS COBALT OXIDE) WAS IDENTIFIED TENTATIVELY BY PFLUCKER (1948). CALCITE APPEARS TO BE AN EARLY MINERAL AND WAS FOLLOWED BY COPPER MINERALIZATION.
