Comments on the workings information

  • LOCATION GIVEN FOR CARD IS THE PORTAL OF THE BALMOUNT-ATLANTA TUNNEL. THIS TUNNEL WAS BLOCKED 1200 FT FROM PORTAL IN 1903. TOTAL LENGTH AT THAT TIME IS UNKNOWN. ONE OTHER ADIT, OF UNKNOWN LENGTH, AND TWO PROSPECT PITS ARE LOCATED NEAR THE BALMOUNT-ATLANTA TUNNEL. MUCH LENGTHENING OF THESE ADITS MAY HAVE TAKEN PLACE DURING THE DEVELOPMENT WORK AT THE BALMOUNT SHAFT, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE SILVER HILL SHAFT.

Comments on development

  • PROSPECTS ABANDONED IN 1903; HOWEVER, MAY HAVE BEEN ACTIVE DURING THE LATER DEVELOPMENT OF THE SILVER HILL AREA

Deposit Discovery Year: LATE 1800'S
Deposit BALMOUNT SHAFT AREA, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE SILVER HILL SHAFT AREA, PRODUCED 811,382 TONS OF ORE GRADING .019 OZ/TON AU, 7.50 OZ/TON AG, 11.33% PB, 6.01% ZN, AND .19% CU. SOME OF THIS PRODUCTION MAY HAVE COME FROM THE BALMOUNT-ATLANTA TUNNEL. ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT
Deposit SEVERAL EAST-WEST STRIKING FISSURES ARE EXPOSED IN THE TUNNEL. ONE FISSURE, LOCATED 700 FT FROM THE PORTAL, SHOWED GOOD STAINING AND SOME MINERALIZATION. AS OF 1903 NO ORE HAD BEEN FOUND. DEVELOPMENT MAY HAVE BEEN DONE HERE DURING THE ACTIVITY AT THE ADJACENT SILVER HILL SHAFT. PRESUMABLY BOTH VEIN AND REPLACEMENT TYPES OF MINERALIZATION ARE PRESENT, REPLACEMENTS BEING LOCATED IN THE THAYNES FORMATION
