  • ; ILMN + ZRCN + MNZT + RUTL + ANTS (+ QRTZ); MESOZOIC GRANITE IS THE LIKELY SOURCE ROCK. IN SOME PLACES THE SAI-LAO DEPOSITS CONSISTS OF SEVERAL DIFFERENT, ROUGHLY PARALLEL STRANDS, TYPICALLY 5 M DEEP. THE SANDS CONTAIN 2-3% HEAVY MINERALS BY WEIGHT, MOSTLY COMPOSED OF ILMN
  • ; MGNT (55%), ILMN (22%), SPNL (10%), CLRT (13%); THE 4 PRINCIPAL ORE BODIES ARE ALIGNED ALONG A RIDGE OVER A DISTANCE OF 6KM LENTICULAR, ELONGATED AND DYKE-LIKE DEPOSITS.

  • ILMN - 20 000 TPA GRADING 52% TIO2; RUTL - 65 TPA GRADING 90% 33%DUE TO LACK OF DEMAND THE ILMN PRODUCTION IN RECENT YEARS HAS DROPPED FROM AS HIGH AS 15 000 TPA IN THE PAST. SMALL QUANTITIES OF ZIRCON, MONAZITE ARE ALSO PRODUCED. A 75% RECOVERY EFFICIENCY IS ASSUMED. THE PLANT WAS MOVED TO PRESENT SITE WITH UPGRADED CAPACITY IN 1973. PC1 ASSUMES 10 YEARS AT 10 000 TPA ILMENITE; PC2 ASSUMES 10 YEARS AT 40 TPA RUTILE.

ASSESSMENT(MECHANIZED MINING IN NEAR FUTURE US UNLIKELY AS NOTED ABOVE. PLANT HAS ADEQUATE DOCK FACILITIES TO SHIP CONCENTRATES. HYDROELECTRIC POWER WILL SOON REPLACE THE PRESENT STEAM GENERATED ELECTRICITY AT NEARLY HALF THE COST.
