Comments on the geologic information

  • GEOL.DESC: WALL ROCKS ARE PHYLLITES OR SERICITE SCHIST OF CALAVERAS SERIES. MANGANESE OXIDE ORE LIES IN MASSIVE META-CHERT, IN SHORT STUMPY LENSES ENCLOSED IN THE SCHIST. BOTH META-CHERT AND ORE ARE CUT BY NUMEROUS QUARTZ VEINS. THE UNOXIDIZED PRIMARY MANGANESE MINERALS ARE PINK RHODONITE AND GARNET (PRESUMABLY SPESSARITE). SOME PORPHYRITIC DIKES ( 3 TO 6 INCHES ) CUT THROUGH ENCLOSING SCHISTS AND ORE BODIES, THESE MAY BE ANDESITIC.
