  • ORE HOSTED IN FRANCISCAN COMPLEX--L. TO L. ; GEOL.DESC: ORE OCCURS WITHIN PROMINENT LAYER OF CHERT WHICH STRIKES N. 55 W. ORE BED VARIES FROM A FEW INCHES TO OVER 4 FT. IN THICKNESS, AND LIES BETWEEN A BED OF MASSIVE YELLOW CHERT ON THE S. AND THIN-BEDDED GREEN AND RED CHERT ON THE N. THE WHOLE SERIES DIPS 25 TO 80 N. E. AT LOWEST LEVELS THE ORE IS HAUSMANNITE, A MASSIVE FINELY CRYSTALLINE DARK BROWN MANGANESE OXIDE, WITH PINK CARBONATE CRYSTALS STRUNG OUT IN RUDE LAYERS. PSILOMELANE IS FOUND IN UPPER LEVELS. NUMEROUS FAULTS CUT THE AREA, AND THE CHERT IS FOLDED AND CONTORTED IN PLACES.
