| Deposit | PLAYA-TYPE DEPOSIT. ULEXITE OCCURS AS NODULES 10-15 CM IN DIAMETER AND AS SMALLER BODIES IN LAYERS 4-5 CM THICK. B IS CONCENTRATED ADJACENT TO A SMALL ISLAND OF PALEOZOIC ROCK IN THE NORTHWEST OF THE SALAR. AN EXPLORATION HOLE FOUND A BED OF HARD ULEXITE BENEATH 60 CM OF RED SAND. UNDER THE ULEXITE WAS 50 CM OF GREEN PLASTIC CLAYS, WHICH IN TURN WERE UNDERLAIN BY A BED OF FETID ORGANIC CLAYS WITH DISSEMINATED ULEXITE. TO THE SOUTH OF THIS OCCURRENCE, NODULAR ULEXITE IS RHYTHMICALLY BEDDED WITH PINKISH SAND IN A LAYER 50 CM THICK WHICH IS UNDERLAIN BY BLACK SAND. |
