Comments on other economic factors

  • OXIDES UNDERGO CRUSHING AT THE EAST MILL AND ARE PUMPED TO WEST MILL FOR FLOTATION AND LEACHING. UNDERGROUND ORE IN THE CHINGOLA DIVISION IS HANDLED BY THE WEST MILL AND SURFACE ORE IS HANDLED BY THE EAST MILL. THERE ARE TWO LEACH PLANTS. ONE IS HIGH GRADE FOR OXIDE FROM ORES, THE SECOND IS FOR TREATING TAILING. AMOUNT OF TAILS (10,000,000 MTPY) AND AMOUNT OF DUMP MATERIAL (1,088,000 MTPY) CONSTITUTE FEED TO SX/EW PLANT.
  • THERE ARE TWO DIFFERENT ORE BODIES BEING MINED UNDERGROUND. ALSO TWO DIFFERENT METHODS ARE IN USE. THE COST IS AN AVERAGE FOR BOTH AND THE CAPACITY IS A COMBINATION OF BOTH.

Deposit THE WALL ST. JOURNAL ARTICLE SAYS 150000 TONNES OF COBALT RESERVES HAVE BEEN DEFINED AT CHINGOLA. COBALT ORE FOUND NEAR AND AROUND NCHANGA PIT. ZAMBIAN COPPER INV. LTD. IS PART OF THE ANGLO AMERICAN GROUP THE CHINGOLA DIVISION IS COMPOSED OF 5 OPEN PITS AND 1 UNDERGROUND MINE.THE LARGEST PIT IS THE NCHANGA PIT. OTHERS ARE LISTED UNDER THE NAME DATA SET. NAMES WITH ORE BODY SUFFIX HAVE NOT BEEN MINED YET. THIS SEQ. NUMBER COVERS ALL OPERATIONS OF THE CHINGOLA DIV. OF NCCM INCLUDING MINING AND MILLING OF SURFACE +UG ORE, OPERATIONS OF HIGH GRADE LEACH PLANT AND TAILINGS LEACH PLANT. IT ALSO ADDRESSES MINING AND MILLING OF COBALT ORE STARTING 1983 AND ECONOMICS OF NEW CO ROAST/LEACH/EW PLANT BEING CONSTRUCTED AT ROKANA. ONE MAJOR ASSUMPTION CONCERNING CCO PROCESSING IS THAT MODIFICATIONS WOULD BE MADE TO THE CHINGOLA MILLS (E OR W) SO THAT INITIAL PROCESSING WOULD BE ON-SITE. THIS ASSUMPTION WAS MADE BECAUSE ACTUAL PLANS ARE NOT AVAILABLE IN PUBLISHED LITERATURE AND PHONE CALLS TO INDIVIDUALS GAVE CONFLICTING VERSIONS. THE REASON NCHANGA AND CHINgOLA MINES WERE EVALUATED TOGETHER IN THE G,L,AND M DATA SETS IS BECAUSE THEY ARE LOCATED CLOSE TO EACH OTHER AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS ARE SIMILAR PREVIOUS INVESTIGATOR: EHB/GOLDER, SEPT., 1982.
