Geologic information

Identification information

Deposit ID 10017417
MRDS ID DC03450
MAS/MILS ID 80130153
Record type Site
Current site name Buena Mine
Alternate or previous names Bueno Mine, Buena, Buena Group, Bueno
Related records 10214216

Comments on the site identification

  • Seems that Buena is the same as Bueno. Because this record for Bueno (only spelled Bueno in ColoMetalMining, 1960) contains comments with quoteed material about the mine clearly labeled Buena in PP-223 (p. 265-269).
  • Unclear if the Buena Mine is the same as the Bueno Mine. The former is in the center of the W2 of Sec. 24. The latter is listed as being in the SE4 of Sec. 24 (Colorado Metal Mining Fund Board, 1960, Tungsten in Colorado, p. 18).
  • Buena Mine appears to include the Wano Group (p. 269, PP-223). Original MAS record 0080130841 (=newMRDS 10166242) for Wano Group has been deleted. It was a very minimal record.

Geographic coordinates

Point of reference Main Entrance
Geographic coordinates: -105.40682, 40.11877 (WGS84)

Probably one or more of the unidentified workings on ths ourth side of the gulch near where the old road ends on the topo map. Location from PP-223, pl. 3.

Comments on the location information

  • Sec. 24, T2N, R 72W, about 1 mile NW of Jamestown.
  • ColoMetalMining, 1960, p. 18 gives location as SE4 of sec. 24, but pl. 3 of PP-223 shows mine in C of W2 Sec. 24. This may be part of the reason it is unclear if Buena = Bueno.

Mining district

District name Jamestown District

Ownership information

  • Type Owner
Owner Harry M. Williiamson, & Son
    Year 1960
  • Type Operator
    Owner Ray Imel
    Year 1960
  • Type Owner-Operator
    Owner BUENO COUER DALENE
    Year 1977

Comments on the ownership information

  • BUENO COUER DALENE is probably a very bad misspelling of BUENO COEUR D'ALENE.

Comments on the production information

  • The most productive gold mine in the district, the Bueno is credited with $2,000,000 from 1879 to 1943, mostly in gold. Additional exploration and mining during the 1960s, 70s, and 80s probably resulted in limited gold production. The mine has seven levels, from 7500 to 8050 feet in elevation.
  • Produced 3 or 4 units of WO3.

Comments on the reserve resource information

  • Sunshine Mining Co. files (Boulder County - Jamestown Project) contain several reports, dated from 1930 to 1992, that describe the Bueno mine workings, geology, and facilities, and include results of drilling and sample assays, discussions of ore reserves, and exploration targets. In 1992 Sunshine declined to do additional work.

Workings at the site

  • Type of workings Underground

Comments on the workings information

  • Shaft with many levels. Adits above shaft collar (ColoMetalMining, 1960, p. 18)
