  • 11 SHAFTS WERE SUNK OVER PERIOD OF OPERATION. THE MILL WAS DISMANTLED AND REMOVED ON CLOSURE OF MINE. DURING THE MID TO LATE 1970'S FEDERAL FUNDS THROUGH THE STATE WATER CONTROL BOARD WERE USED TO CLEAN UP THE MINE TRAILINGS IN AND ALONG CONTRARY CREE. SEWAGE SLUDGE ALONG WITH AN ABUNDANCE OF LIME AND STRAW WAS USED DURING RECLAMATION AND REVEGETATION OF THE AREA.

Deposit PROBABLY SEVERAL LENSES
Deposit THE GOSSAN OR LIMONITE CAP WAS FIRST MINED AND FURNACED PRIOR TO THE CIVIL WAR IN THE OLD VICTORIA FURNACE WHICH WAS CLOSED IN 1877. PYRITE MINING BEGAN IN 1882. IN 1906 3 OF THE 8 SHAFTS WERE WORKING. THE MINE WAS WORKED CONTINUOUSLY UNTIL 1922, MILL DISMANTLED AND REMOVED. COPPER RECOVERED LARGELY FROM GROUND WATER BY SPRAYING IRON PLATES WITH WATER ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV
