Comments on the production information

  • FROM 1856-1925 PEWABIC AMYGDALOID LODES PRODUCED 873,712,184 LBS OF CU FROM THE ALBANY AND BOSTON, FRANKLIN, FRANKLIN JUNOIR, HANCOCK, PEWABIC, QUINCY, AND RHODE ISLAND MINES. Grade was reported 24.46 lbs/ton (1.22%) rock treated. SILVER PRODUCTION ESTIMATED FOR 1920 -- OTHER YEARS ACCURATE

Comments on the workings information

  • ADVANCED STOPING WAS PRACTICED FIRST, THEN RETREAT STOPING WITH LESS TIMBERING (1927); ACQUISITIONS ALLOWED QUINCY TO MINE AT DEEP LEVELS FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS, BUT AT DEEP LEVELS OVER 50% OF ORE WAS LEFT IN PILLARS.

Comments on development

  • ECON.COM: QUINCY WAS INCORPORATED 30 MAR 1848. IN 1856 PEWABIC LODE WAS DISCOVERED. A NEW COMPANY WAS FORMED UNDER THE SAME NAME IN 1878. IT WAS REINCORPORATED IN 1908. ABSORBED PEWABIC IN 1891. IN 1897, MESNARD AND PONTIAC PROPERTIES WERE PURCHASED. PURCHASED OLD FRANKLIN MINE 1 DEC 1908. QUINCY MINE (2002) IS CURRENTLY OPEN FOR TOURIST BUSINESS.

Deposit IN GENERAL, COMMERCIAL ORE WAS FOUND IN THE UPPER LEVELS IN THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN PARTS OF THE QUINCY PROPERTY, WHEREAS TO THE NORTH, IN NO. 8 SHAFT, A LONG STRETCH OF LODE WAS PASSED THROUGH BEFORE COMMERCIAL ORE WAS ENCOUNTERED. IT APPEARS THAT THE CONDITIONS IN THE PEWABIC LODES WERE SIMILAR TO THOSE IN OTHER LODES IN THE DISTRICT.
Deposit THE WIDTH OF THE PEWABIC LODE (SOMETIMES CALLED QUINCY LODE) FROM "OLD" PEWABIC LODE TO "FAR WEST" LODE WAS 350', DIP WAS 52-54 NW, AVERAGE WIDTH OF LODE WAS 20' UP TO 40' IN PLACES
