Relative position The location of this deposit is only generally known from an old reference (Brooks, 1902), which indicates that it is near the Shakan molybdenum deposit on northern Kosciusko Island (PE048). The exact location of the mine is uncertain but coordinates of the site are probably accurate to within a km. Included in locality 52 of Grybeck, Berg, and Karl (1984).

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The country rocks in the area of this locality are Cretaceous hornfels in contact with a large Cretaceous diorite pluton (Brew and others, 1984). The deposit, which may be near the contact is a quartz vein reported to carry auriferous pyrite (Brooks, 1902). The deposit was discovered in 1898 and a small stamp mill was installed but no production is reported and no work of note has apparently taken place since the early 1900's.

  • Production Notes = A little gold may have been produced from an auriferous quartz vein early in the century (Brooks, 1902).

  • Workings / Exploration = A small stamp mill was installed on a quartz vein discovered in 1898 but no work of note has taken place since the early 1900's and little information is available about the deposit (Brooks, 1902). Since 1902, the only information that has been published on it as a few minor, secondary references.
