Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The country rocks in the area of the occurrence are mostly the Nikolai Greenstone, a thick sequence of Middle or upper Triassic basalt and subordinate tuff, argillite, and chert (Nokleberg and others, 1992). At the occurence, a small diorite pluton intrudes the Nikolai Greenstone. The deposit consists of chalcopyrite, pyrite, and malachite erratically distributed in quartz veins 1/4 to 3 inches wide. The veins occur along a shear zone several feet wide that cuts the diorite pluton.
  • Age = Middle Triassic or younger.
