Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The country rocks in the area of this site are schist, hornfels, and gneiss derived from an assemblage of undivided volcanic, sedimentary, and intrusive rocks of Silurian and Ordovician age (Berg, 1972; Berg and others, 1988). The rocks are polymetamorphic: the latest metamorphism, to greenschist grade, probably occurred in Late Cretaceous time. The occurrence consists of sparsely disseminated pyrite, chalcopyrite, and traces of malachite in schist (Berg, 1972, loc. 24).
