Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = Chapin (1914, p. 389) reported a rich placer gold discovery on Manila Creek. The paystreak, about 10 feet thick, was on schist bedrock below about 25 feet of barren alluvium. The gold was reported to be coarse and flaky. In 1916, Mertie (1918, p. 454) found two underground drift mines in operation on Manila Creek . The headwaters of Manila Creek are in a highly mineralized area that includes several identified antimony and gold deposits (NM085, NM086, and NM087).
  • Age = Quaternary.
