Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The site is mainly underlain by marble and argillite and graywacke of Silurian and Devonian age that are intruded by hornblende diorite of Cretaceous age (Brew and others, 1978). At the site, thin quartz veins in marble contain pyrite, pyrrhotite, and chalcopyrite. A representative sample collected by MacKevett and others (1971, p. 50) contained 1000 ppm copper and 300 ppm each of cobalt and nickel.
  • Age = Probably Cretaceous.

Mining district

District name Juneau

Comments on the workings information

  • Workings / Exploration = Representative surface sample of veins contained 1000 ppm copper, and 300 ppm each of cobalt and nickel (MacKevett and others, 1971). Trace of gold, no silver detected. Wright and Wright (1937) reported claims staked for copper at or near this locality.
