Economic information

Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = This occurrence consists of galena-bearing, carbonate-rich gossan in altered Jurassic-Cretaceous andesite near the contact with quartz monzonite of the Cretaceous Quartz Creek pluton. The altered zone is marked by quartz-calcite replacement, and tourmaline (also see Additional comments). A grab sample of gossan gave the following results: 300 ppm Ag, 5,000 ppm As, greater than 500 ppm Cd, 200 ppm Cu, greater than 2% Pb, and greater than 1% Zn (Miller and Elliot, 1969, location 31).
  • Age = Late Cretaceous.

General comments

Subject category Comment text
Deposit Model Name = Sulfides in altered andesite.
Deposit Other Comments = This site is one of numerous occurrences of argentiferous galena, sphalerite, pyrite, and arsenopyrite in altered andesite adjacent to quartz monzonite of the Quartz Creek pluton. The altered zone is 18 miles long and 2 to 5 miles wide. It trends N 15 W, across the drainage basins of Quartz Creek and Kiwalik River and is parallel to prominent lineaments in the area.
