ULTIMATE SOURCE IS QUARTZ VEINS IN METAMORPHIC ROCKS. GOLD IN PLACERS DERIVED FROM CONGLOMERATE ERODED FROM OLDER METAMORPHIC ROCKS AT HEAD OF CREEK. PLACERS ONLY WHERE BEDROCK IS CONGLOMERATE. A LARGE PART OF GOLD SAID TO HAVE COME OUT OF UNION CREEK, A SMALL TRIBUTARY FROM THE SE.
