Comments on the geologic information

  • Geologic Description = The prospect consists of a sericitized granite porphyry dike which cuts a stibnite-bearing schist. The stibnite occurs as pods and veinlets in the schist and as a surface coating on the dike contact (Prindle, 1910). Specimens of ore from this deposit are made up of a granular aggregate of stibnite (Brooks, 1916, p. 33; B 649). The aggregates are highly weathered, and a little pyrite occurs with the stibnite. There are also some vitreous quartz grains buried in the stibnite; some of these grains showed crystal terminations (Brooks, 1916, p. 33; B 649).? the stibnite contains less that $1 per ton in gold (0.05 ounces of gold per ton) but the grade of the granite porphyry is unknown. The prospect was idle in 1916 and was noted to be associated with a horizontal structure which may have been parallel to foliation (Brooks, 1916; B 649). The Mother Lode prospect was examined as a possible source of antimony in 1942 but no additional exploration was conducted due to insufficient tonnage potential (Killeen and Mertie, 1951).
