  • Geologic Description = Placer gold is present in Quaternary alluvial gravels. The bedrock in the area is monotonous sequences of thin- to thick-bedded sandstone, siltstone, and mudstone of the Eocene and Paleocene Orca Group. Primary sedimentary features indicate deposition by turbidity currents (Winkler, 1992). A 0.1 cubic yard sample contained 0.0005 oz Au/cubic yard (Jansons and others, 1984).
