| Deposit | HORNFELS, SHALE, AND SCHIST ARE CUT BY A LARGE STEPPLY-DIPPING GRANODIORITE DIKE 250 FT WIDE AND A SMALLER APLITE DIKE. ALL ROCK TYPES ARE CUT BY QUARTZ VEINS AND VEINLETS UP TO 2 FT WIDE. LARGER VEINS CONTAIN GOLD, SILVER, CHALCOPYRITE, AND PYRITE, BUT NO SCHEELITE. THE SCHEELITE OCCURS IN NARROW VEINLETS LESS THAN AN INCH WIDE. SOME VEINLETS 0.25-0.5 INCH WIDE ARE NEARLY HALF SCHEELITE, AND HIGHEST GRADE IS AT VEIN INTERSECTIONS. IN ONE PLACE 350 FT FROM THE PORTAL OF THE ADIT, SEVERAL VEINLETS INTERSECT TO GIVE A GRADE OF ABOUT 1 % WO3 OVER A 2 FT WIDTH. AVEREAGE GRADE OF THE 7 TONS OF ORE MINED IN 1955 WAS LESS THAN 0.4 % WO3. |
| Deposit | THE CHARLESTOWN HILL NATIONAL MINES INC CONSISTED OF A GROUP OF 11 CLAIMS OWNED BY THIS MONTANA CORPORATION FORMED IN 1916. A SMALL PRODUCTION WAS MADE BY LESSEES IN ITS EARLY YEARS. THE PROPERTY WAS INACTIVE FROM 1929 UNTIL VANDERBURG'S REPORT IN 1938. DEVELOPMENT THEN CONSISTED OF SEVERAL ADITS AND OTHER WORKINGS TOTALLING ABOUT 2000 FEET ; INFO.SRC : 1 PUB LIT; 2 UNPUB REPT; 3 FIELD OBSERV |
