| Deposit | THORIUM VEINS IN THIS AREA ARE ONE OF FOUR ENVIRONMENTS OF TH OCCURRENCE KNOWN IN THE POWDERHORN-IRON HILL AREA AND ARE PROBABLY RELATED TO EMPLACEMENT OF LATE PRECAMBRIAN SYENITES NORTH AND WEST OF IRON HILL AND OF YOUNGER LATE PRECAMBRIAN OR CAMBRIAN CARBONATITES AT IRON HILL. PROSPECT LIES ON PARALLEL LEUCOGRANITE AND AUGITE SYENITE DIKES TRENDING N 5 W AND RADIATING FROM COMPOSITE AUGITE SYENITE INTRUSION JUST TO SOUTH. MAIN BODY OF INTRUSION IS PORPHYRITIC AUGITE SYENITE, BUT OLDER MELASYENITE FORMS NE EDGE OF BODY, AND SMALL LENS OF LEUCOSYENITE MAPPED WITHIN MAIN BODY. INTRUSION CUTS ACROSS TWO PRINCIPAL FACIES OF DUBOIS GREENSTONE WHOSE FOLIATION TRENDS GENERALLY N 15 E, 60 TO 90 NW. |
