  • ELSTON, (1967, P. 38) REPORTS THE PLACER OPERATIONS PROBABLY YIELDED BETWEEN $1 AND $2 MILLION DOLLARS BEFORE 1880. LINDGREN (1910, P. 174) STATES THAT THE MINERS WERE OBTAINING $2000 TO $4000 ANNUALLY IN 1910

  • IN THE MID-19TH CENTURY MINERS WORKED THE PLACERS WITH PRIMITIVE EQUIPMENT, PANNING OR SLUICING THE GOLD. AL LARGE-SCALE MODERN OPERATIONS HAVE FAILED. THERE IS INSUFFICIENT WATER FOR WET METHODS OF EXTRACTION AND THE GROUND IS TOO WET FOR DRY METHODS.
