Comments on development

  • LIGIER MARBLE CO. WAS OWNER AND OPERATOR FROM 1946 TO 1962. FROM 1962 TO 1965, QUARRIES WERE OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE DRAGOON MARBLE COMPANY (OWNED BY CHARLES C. LEWIS CO.), BUT CLAIMS WERE RETURNED TO THE LIGIER'S WHEN OPERATIONS SHUT DOWN. MANY GROUPS HAVE TRIED TO MINE THESE DEPOSITS SINCE, BUT ECONOMICS WERE NOT COMPETITIVE WITH OPERATIONS CLOSER TO TUCSON AND OTHER METROPOLITAN AREAS.
