Deposit THE ELK MOUNTAIN AREA CONSISTS OF SEVERAL PEGMATITES THAT CROP OUT IN QUARTZ-MICA SCHIST. THE PEGMATITES STRIKE NORTH-SOUTH WITH A STEEP WESTERLY DIP. THE LONGEST PEGMATITE IS 200 FEET LONG. THE PEGMATITES ARE ZONED AND HAVE A MASSIVE QUARTZ CORE. THE OUTER CORE CONTAINS ALBITE. MICROCLINE AND QUARTZ. THE MICA IS USUALLY FOUND AT THE CONTACT BETWEEN THE CORE AND THE ALBITE-RICH ZONE. THE MICA SHOOTS ARE 3 TO 15 FEET THICK, AND ARE COMPOSED OF ABOUT 55 PERCENT MUSCOVITE. THE MICA IS COLORLESS, HARD, FLAT, RELATIVELY FREE-SPLITTING AND CONTAINS VERY LITTLE MINERAL STAINING. IT IS SEVERELY RULED, BROKEN AND "A" STRUCTURES ARE COMMON. TRIMMED MICA RARELY EXCEEDS 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER. MICA IS ESTIMATED TO REPRESENT ABOUT 0.5 PERCENT OF THE DIKE. FIVE CLAIMS AND ONE MILL SITE ARE PATENTED. THERE IS NO REFERENCE TO WHICH ONES ARE PATENTED.
