Comments on the location information

  • LOWRY AND GRIGGS (1936) LOCATED ON MAP A SHAFT, 40 FT DEEP, IN C-SW-SE-NW-25 IN AN E-W QUARTZ VEIN IN GRANOPHYRE ROCK, WITH GALENA, SPHALERITE, BARITE, AND CHALCOPYRITE. THE SHAFT WAS PARTLY FILLED WITH WATER. THIS WOULD BE ABOUT 0.25 MI NW OF SCHOONOVER'S LOCATION. LOWRY AND GRIGGS (1936) GAVE A WRITTEN LOCATION OF SE-SE-SE-NW-25, WHICH WOULD BE ABOUT 300 FT NW OF SCHOONOVER'S LOCATION. MERRITT, HAM, ANDERSON, AND SOUKUP (1941) LOCATED THE PIT JUST W. OF C-NE-SW-25, BUT THEIR INDIAN HILLS LAKE (CRATER LAKE) WAS OFF. THEY COLLECTED GALENA, SPHALERITE, HEMATITE, AND QUARTZ FROM DUMP. SHAFT WAS FILLED WITH WATER. THEY SAID THAT SNIDER (1912, P. 94-95) DESCRIBED THIS MINE, CALLED STARLEY MINE. SNIDER (1912, P. 95) MENTIONED ANOTHER SHAFT, A FEW HUNDRED YARDS N. OF THE STARLEY, WITH GALENA.
