FATH (1915, P. 145-146) DESCRIBED THE COPPER DEPOSIT, MENTIONING THAT IT ALSO OCCURRED IN SEC. 2. MERRITT (1940, P. 9) AND BRANSON, BURWELL, AND CHASE (1955, P. 7) QUOTED FATH. MALACHITE, AZURITE, CHALCOCITE, AND FOSSIL WOOD ARE IN THE RYAN SS. OF THE LOWER WELLINGTON OR CLAYPOOL FM., ABOUT 20-24 FT ABOVE THE BASE. ABOUT 50 FT OF THE OSCAR CONGLOMERATES, SH., AND SS. OCCUR BELOW THE WELLINGTON, DOWN TO THE RED RIVER. THE BLUFF IS ABOUT 100 FT HIGH HERE. WEGEMANN (1915, P. 51-54) CORRELATES THESE BEDS WITH OTHERS IN SECS. 2, 3, 4, 5-5S-11W. Deposit BACHMAN AND O'SULLIVAN (1954) GIVE LOCATION IN NE-NE-3-5S-11W, WITH 0.30% CU. U.S.A.E.C. (1968, COTTON CO.) MENTIONED THAT THREE SHAFTS WERE SEEN IN 1951 ON THE GRADY BENSON FARM IN THIS AREA. THESE ARE QUOTED BY TOTTEN AND FAY (1982, P. 10, LOCS. 106, 113).
